Solid domed papier-mache head with painted complexion and facial feature,firmly-padded torso legs and feet. The doll is wearing original costume featuring Zouave Vivandiere woman who served water and supplies to the soldiers. The persons were celebrated for their presence in the Crimean War of mid-1850s. Very rare doll to find in original costume and with antique original accessory (the metal jug) These type of dolls were featured in an article "Pleasure in Pairs" by Estelle Johnston in Doll News,May 1986.

11" (28 cm.) tall French,circa 1850. Good condition to age, costume a little worn.
