10" (25 cm) Antique French Mechanical Bellows Toy "The Acrobat Clown on Chair", c.1890
A bisque-head clown with untinted complexion and painted clown decorations, painted eyes, mohair wig, is perched upon a wooden chair, his arms attached to chair frame with metal rods. When the bellows at chair base is pressed, the clown moves up and down at various speeds and pressures, "performing" a series of balancing and acrobatic deeds. The entire presentation is on its original wooden base with painted ground scene. Wonderfully amusing actions, perfectly preserved. French, circa 1890, an entire series of delightful bellows, pull-toy or hand-wind simple mechanical toys were created with identical wooden bases; the French maker remains a mystery. Condition: generally excellent and all original! Height 10" (25 cm.) and base 7" x 7" (18 x 18 cm.) Please email me if you have any questions. Thanks for looking. ------------------------------------ I DO A LAYAWAY.
