1860's Very Rare and Opulent German Boxed Paper Doll "Season of the Crinoliner Doll
8.5" doll. A 9" x 11" pasteboard box whose lid is extravagantly decorated with rich engraving of scrolls,floral bouquets and cherubs centering an engraving of a fashionable woman standing with her three children,a chateau at the background,is labeled in three languages "Season of the Crinoline,a new and rich doll". It contains one paper doll lady,along with eight double-sided (one side blank) crinoline-style costumes and six hats. The costumes are vibrantly colored and enhanced with egg-wash varnish lustre. Four of the costumes feature children at their mother's skirt,with one depicting a young boy and girl holding the box of paper dolls as though beseeching their mother to play with them. The box is marked G.W.F. (block letters) and GWFaber (script). Excellent condition,light box wear. Germany,circa 1860.
