The metal purse with bronze-like finish on the repousse detailing has a silk ribbon center strip and oval medallion with a colorful image of a pavilion with French waving flags below the words "Exposition of 1867". Excellent condition. French, 1867.
3" (8 cm.) length, 2" (5cm) height A similar model was presented in the book by Francois Theimer "The Encyclopedia of French Dolls", in the chapter about great exhibitions in Paris in the 19th century (Vol.1, page 206). Please see last photo. At the Universal Exhibition of 1867 in Paris, JUMEAU company received a silver medal with a "special mention for the head of the dolls". It was also this year that the second son of the founder, Emile-Louis Jumeau, joined the company, which experienced its heyday under his leadership at the end of the 19th C.
