Papier-mache head lady with black glass eyes, painted features, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig,paper-mache shoulder plate and torso,wire upper arms, wooden hands.
The lady posed seated, holding a decorated wooden mandolin with painted flowers in her arm. When wound, she nods her head to and fro, strums the mandolin, music plays. Condition: good to age, her dress is worn, the nose a little with loose painting because age, mechanism and music functions well. France, Theroude,circa 1850. The rare early automaton lady is wearing her all-original silk gown with matching hat. 14" (35 cm.) tall including music box. From AU NAIN BLEU SHOP.
