Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, cobalt blue glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, lightly feathered brows, softly blushed complexion, ears pierced into head with original earrings, original blonde mohair wig over original cork pate, firmly stuffed kid poupee body with square-cut collarette, bisque hands, and gusset-jointing at hips and knees.

Finely preserved, this rare poupee retains her original undergarments, antique original leather boots (Marled L.P.), and a very beautiful original a remarkable complete peasant-style fancy-dress costume by Mlle BEREUX, comprising a brown and black striped dress with fitted bodice and short sleeves, worn beneath a contrasting buff-colored apron-style overdress with a fitted front panel, finely pleated skirt, applied pockets and narrow black ribbon trim. The ensemble is completed by its matching bonnet. The charming costume is exceptionally evocative of the elaborate miniature fashions created for Parisian poupees of the period.

Dating to circa 1865, the poupee was presented in the Parisian boutique Au Papa Etrennes. The boutique’s advertising indicated that it specialized in dressed and undressed poupees as well as doll trousseaux.

Condition: generally excellent.

Rare marks: “AU PAPA ENTRENNES Specialite de poupee PAIX-FIXE 43 blvd. St.Martin Paris” (stamp on front torso).
